  • Let's get started!
  • Welcome to the Family Group Conference process. Please click to select your character from above.
  • Welcome to the Family Group Conference process. This is a meeting for you.
  • Your social worker or someone else may ask you and your family if you wish to have a Family Group Conference.
  • They will then speak to a Family Group Conference Manager who will help things move in the right direction.
  • The Family Group Conference Manager will then pick the best Coordinator suited to your family and begin planning to meet you.
  • The Family Group Conference Co-ordinator will telephone your family to arrange to meet you. They will explain what needs to be talked about and decided.
  • The Family Group Conference Co-ordinator will meet everyone who is coming to the meeting before hand and make sure they are all ready.
  • To help you prepare what you want to say you can ask for someone to help you or speak for you in the meeting or just simply sit beside you. This person is called an Advocate.
  • Now the Family Group Conference meeting happens. The Co-ordinator will introduce everyone and agree rules for working together so everyone feels safe and gets heard.
  • The Social worker will explain any concerns as well as the ‘bottom line’ in terms of keeping you safe and happy.
  • The family now has private time to come up with a plan to help keep you safe and happy. You can discuss what you and your family want.
  • Everyone comes back together to look at the plan you made with your family, just to make sure it gets the thumbs up!
  • You and your family go home and use the plan everyday to make sure everyone is happy. Another family member will help you and others keep on track.
  • After a while, if you want to, you can all meet up again and make sure everyone is keeping to the plan.
  • If you are happy with the plan that’s great, but if it’s not working it’s no problem... you can all meet up to review it.
  • Hopefully now you know what is involved in a Family Group Conference and taking the next step towards having one with your family might be easier.
